Amla (Indian gooseberry, Phyllanthus emblica), a small, very sour green fruit eaten fresh, dried, pickled, juiced, or as a powder in South Asia; it is notably high in vitamin C and also carries polyphenols. Distinct from the European gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa).
