What is lassi, and how do sweet and salted versions differ?

How Feelments prepares its content

Lassi is a drink made from fermented milk, diluted with water. Sweet, salted and fruit versions share this base but differ in the ingredients added for flavour.

What changes between the versions?

Sugar gives sweet lassi its sweetness, salt seasons salted lassi, and fruit or fruit products give fruit lassi its flavour. These additions can be combined, so a fruit lassi may also contain added sugar. The 2021 FSSAI compendium lists these ingredients for the fermented-milk drink category; it does not prescribe a single recipe for every lassi.
